The South Americans take on France - who needed a late goal to beat Costa Rica and drew with Tunisia in their last two friendlies - in their opening Group A match.

They will then take on hosts South Africa and Mexico, but Tabarez is in no doubt over which side will prove his team's toughest opponents.

"France are prestigious rivals, finalists at the last World Cup," he said in Ultimas Noticias newspaper.

"The majority of their players play at a high level in Europe.

"They are going to be the most difficult rival. We have some things that can cause problems to France but they also have things which can make things difficult for us."
