The Uruguayan Football Association are expected to punish more than half their Copa America squad for not flying back to their homeland with the rest of the team.
Uruguay lost to Brazil on penalties in the semi-finals in Venezuela and were then beaten 3-1 by Mexico in the third-place play-off last Saturday.
The AUF organised for coach Oscar Tabarez's side to return on Monday, but 14 players decided to leave Venezuela on Sunday.
AUF president Jose Luis Corbo said: "We cannot accept this decision that the only thing they achieved was to return to Uruguay a few hours earlier, when we had tickets already bought."
"I will talk to Tabarez about this soon."
The players who flew earlier were Alvaro Recoba, Dario Rodriguez, Carlos Diogo, Pablo Garcia, Diego Godin, Diego Perez, Vicente Sanchez, Carlos Valdez, Fabian Canobbio, Fabian Estoyanoff, Walter Gargano, Maximiliano Pereira, Cristian Rodriguez and Ignacio Gonzalez.
