Following a goalless first-half at Khalifa Stadium, Bakaev broke the deadlock shortly after the re-start and doubled the lead three minutes later before Bashar Bani Yaseen reduced the deficit just before the hour mark.

The early exchanges proved relatively low-key before Alexander Geynrikh called Amer Shafi into action after 22 minutes with a swerving effort from 30 yards that the Jordan keeper palmed out of the top corner.

Ahmad Abdelhalim's free-kick then almost caught out Ignatiy Nesterov at his near post but the Uzbekistan custodian managed to push the midfielder's effort into the air and Sakhob Juraev cleared from under the bar.

Hasan Abdel Fattah fired wide on the half-hour mark and Shafi did well to parry Geynrikh's attempt after the midfielder had met Sanjar Tursunov's cross first-time eight yards out.

Uzbekistan did go in front almost immediately after the interval when a statuesque Jordan defence allowed Bakaev to run free and meet Server Djeparov's floated free-kick with the striker's glancing header beating Shafi.

Bakaev doubled his side's lead in the 49th minute when he swept home Jasur Khasanov's cross from the left with aplomb at the near post but Jordan replied nine minutes later when Ameer Deeb met Abdelhalim's corner with a powerful close-range header and although Nesterov displayed excellent reflexes to keep out his effort, Yaseen was on hand to fire home.

Jordan pressed for the equaliser and substitute keeper Temur Juraev got down low to push away Abdelhalim's strike moments after coming on for Nesterov.

Tursunov then shot wide with seven minutes to go after racing clear of the Jordan defence as Uzbekistan closed out an historic victory.
