The Than Nien Daily website reported on Saturday that Vietnam'sMinistry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has advised the Vietnam Football Federation to replace Duong Nghiep Khoi as head of the organisation board of the V-League.

The news comes less than a week after the violent clashes at Vinh Stadium between fans of both teams which saw a Song Lam fan killed.

The Vietnamese authorities were mindful not to fall foul of FIFA's stance on government interference in football associations and stressed that they had not dismissed Khoi.

"We knew FIFA's rules well and we have discussed the matter thoroughly," said the ministry administrative manager To Van Dong.

"We have carefully considered the issue and found a solution to comply with the regulations.

"We urged VFF to stop assigning Khoi to the position. That's different from sacking him. We didn't violate FIFA's regulations."

Khoi has already submitted his resignation but said that he was under no duress by the government to quit.

"I feel comfortable," Khoi said.

"I don't care what the decision will be because I decided to resign on my own and I sent the request to the VFF on Friday."

Khoi is expected to be replaced on an interim basis by VFF general secretary Tran Quoc Tuan.

The fallout from the violence in Vinh is continuing with representatives from both clubs meeting the VFF this week to discuss the matter.

Song Lam have reportedly been fined 50 million Vietnamese dong (£1560), had three points deducted from their league total and are barred from playing at home for the rest of the season.

The head of the Vinh Stadium authorities has also been rebuked for inefficient management which led to the situation last weekend spiralling out of control.
