David Villa and Valencia have moved quickly to deny speculation linking the Spanish forward with a move to Barcelona.
Reports on Spanish radio station Cadena Ser yesterday suggested the 27-year-old had an agreement with Los Che which would allow him to leave the club in the summer to join Barcelona.
Today, Valencia released a statement on their website, www.valenciacf.es, which read: "In light of recently published incorrect stories, Valencia CF wish to officially announce that the player David Villa and the club have made no pact, no agreement nor have they held any conversation regarding the player leaving the club."
Villa was persistently linked with a move away from the Mestalla last summer after impressing in Spain's victorious campaign at Euro 2008.
However, after turning down a bid from Real Madrid he signed a new contract with Valencia.
Vice-president Fernando Gomez added in the statement: "We already showed last summer that Villa is a very valuable player for us and that his performances in our team have only increased our faith in him.
"It is completely untrue that the club have agreed a deal with the player or his agent. David is happy at Valencia and we're very satisfied with his efforts and his performances.
"We find the publication of certain stories quite irresponsible and even more so when they come on the day of such an important game."
Villa opened the scoring from the penalty spot in yesterday's 3-1 win over Atletico Madrid, the fist Primera Liga game after the winter break.
After the game he told Marca: "Yes I have an agreement, but it's for six years and with Valencia, and I hope to complete this happily and then maybe even add another year.
"Whoever believes me, great. Whoever doesn't can say what they like. The one who decides is me, I'm the one who has the authority over my future."
