Victory's comfortable win over Fury, Sydney's dramatic victory over Glory and Gold Coast's loss against Phoenix sees the Premiers' Plate go on the line at Sydney Football Stadium in the Big Blue this Sunday.

All Victory need is to avoid defeat and they'll retain the Premiership - the first club ever to defend the A-League title with back to back wins. And to do so on the home soil of their bitter rivals will be oh-so-sweet.

Sydney, two points short of Melbourne, must win to take the Plate. A draw might be enough for them to hold onto a coveted top two spot - and the chance of the double in the A-League finals - if Gold Coast can't defeat Fury in Townsville.

However, with United just a point behind, a loss to Melbourne and a Gold Coast win would dump the sky blues out of the double chance spots in what would be a hammer blow for Vitezslav Lavicka's men.

But a loss for both United and Sydney would mean the sky blues hang onto second spot.

In the history of the A-League, has there ever been one game with so much riding on this Big Blue?

Up for grabs are the Premiers Plate, a spot in the lucrative AFC 2011 Asian Champions League  - and with that the potential of a highly lucrative Club World Cup - as well as a berth in the A-League top two.

Not to mention the bragging rights over a bitter rival for the biggest game in the Big Blue's history.

This clash is destined to rival any of the biggest games in Europe for passion, intensity and fan interest. Expect the biggest crowd of the season by far at the SFS on Sunday.

This season will end with a bang, you can bet on that.

And with a win for Sydney next week setting up a possible run of up to three more clashes with Victory - including the coveted Grand Final - the finals could be blockbuster after blockbuster too.

Melbourne Victory 2 North Queensland Fury 0

God's Fury didn't rain down on Melbourne. Instead, it was a Costa Rican called Carlos who stole the show with a brace and a man of the match performance.

Hernandez took his season's total to 12 with two quality efforts either side of half time, the first from open play, the second from a set piece.

It was ample reward for a  Victory side that barely skipped a beat after losing key men Archie Thompson and Kevin Muscat to injury and suspension in the lead up.

For Fury, another disappointing road trip for a side that can't seem to win outside of Townsville - even with the godly influence of Robbie Fowler.

Adelaide United 2 Brisbane Roar 0

If only the Reds could've played like this earlier in the season. Still, better late than never as they eye the Asian Champions League after this confident victory over a sleepy Roar.

And after the possibly flawed signing of defensive midfielder Adam Griffiths, hopes will be high after Marco Flores' performance in midfield. He looks to be a gem of a pick-up and has ACL-class written all over him after second half cameo as a substitute.

What's more, Travis Dodd showed signs he's coming out of his recent slump. The Reds may still avoid the A-League wooden spoon as they prepare to play Pohang Steelers in the ACL later this month.

For Roar, it's going to be a long off-season.

Sydney FC 3 Perth Glory 2

Is John Aloisi Sydney's secret weapon for the finals? It's certainly looking that way after his two goals against a gutsy Glory sealed a vital win in the context of the top two.

Daniel McBreen - who else? - looked to have salvaged a point with a late equaliser before Stephan Keller's superb cross found Aloisi who angled his header past a stationary Aleks Vrteski for the third and winning goal.

Glory will be deflated but will take heart from their performance - particularly without so many top players.

Sydney will be buoyant ahead of the Big Blue Blockbuster on Sunday - and no-one will be more happy than the FC marquee man who's found his touch in front of goal at exactly the right time.

Gold Coast United 0 Wellington Phoenix 1

It's bad enough having a bogey side but when they play as well as this, Gold Coast were always going to be in trouble.

And it didn't help that Matthew Breeze awarded the visitor a dubious penalty just before half-time. In truth, Phoenix didn't deserve to lose. They were too organised and had just the right game-plan to blunt United.

The best Gold Coast can now hope for is to finish second. For that, they must defeat North Queensland Fury away and hope Sydney FC lose to Melbourne Victory at home.

Phoenix, now in fourth, must surely fancy their chances of finishing in that spot and getting a home final at fortress Westpac when an experimental Central Coast Mariners play them in New Zealand this Friday in the final round.

Wellington sit a point ahead of Perth Glory in fifth but Newcastle Jets with the catch up game tonight could still have a big say on Phoenix's final placing.

Branko Culina's side are sixth but on 34 points, three behind Phoenix but with a much inferior goal difference.

Central Coast v Newcastle Jets postponed.

For the second week in a row, an A-League game was cancelled due to heavy rains. This one goes ahead tonight (Monday).
