Victory prevailed 1-0 away over Newcastle Jets in contentious fashion after the VAR failed to cancel out Kosta Barbarouses’ ninth minute goal for offside.

FFA released a statement saying a technical failure meant the VAR did not have access to the necessary camera views.

Victory returned to Melbourne on Sunday afternoon as Valeri was forced to answer questions about the controversy.

“Sometimes decisions go your way, sometimes they go against you, it’s always been a part of football, even before the VAR,” Valeri said.

“It won’t take anything away from what we achieved and we’re going to enjoy this.

“That’s football, we’re just happy and just celebrating our Grand Final win. We’re very ecstatic, so no one is going to take that away from us.

“We’re here celebrating the trophy, I think you saw us holding it up. We worked hard for it and we’re happy to bring it to our home fans.”

It was Valeri’s second A-League championship and the triumph makes Victory the most successful club in the league’s history.

There has been speculation regarding Valeri’s future as the former Socceroo may be hanging up the boots after the win.

However the 33-year-old said he was not thinking about the decision just yet.

“There are a lot of questions flying around that are distracting me from enjoying this moment, but I am enjoying this moment,” he joked.

“It’s a special moment and one I’ll cherish for the rest of my life and there’s plenty of time for that decision.”

The skipper also praised the Victory fans who travelled to Newcastle and AAMI Park on the weekend.

Valeri added: “They always turn out in numbers, when we were driving to the game last night, we saw them walking the streets. It looks amazing and it’s great to have that support behind you.”
