Melbourne Victory captain Carl Valeri says he won’t be reflecting on his 2015 A-League title success in the upcoming Grand Final against Sydney FC.
Victory defeated Brisbane Roar 1-0 in the semi-final with the only goal scored by Besart Berisha with 20 minutes remaining to book a meeting with Sydney on Sunday.
Victory finished first two-years-ago and smacked the Sky Blues 3-0 in the decider, but this time Big V are travelling to Sydney to meet the table-topping team.
The Victory skipper felt it was not the time to think about the past.
“It’s great, (the 2015 A-League title and FFA Cup) they’re achievements but you have to look forward, you can’t look back,” Valeri said.
“We want to keep winning things, to look back and say ‘ooh we won that two years ago’, it doesn’t really matter.
“I mean it’s great to tell your kids one day ‘I did this and that’ but we’ve got high expectations at this club in and amongst ourselves.
“It matters what we’re doing now so we just want to recover and freshen up and we’ll start thinking about Sydney.”
Valeri acknowledged his side's sluggish finish to the regular season and said the plan was to come out firing against Roar.
He said they worked on their intensity and aggression, which they delivered.
“We needed a bit more spark, just because we had that month probably where we knew we were second,” he said.
“Maybe we discussed it amongst ourselves that we really needed to come out firing and just to lead my example in there.”
