The 25-year-old Australian, who joined Sassuolo from Grosseto in the January transfer window, returned to the starting line-up as the Emilia-Romagna outfit claimed a crucial win.

A first-half Daniele Martinetti put Sassuolo ahead but scores were level at the break after Edgar Cani equalised on 24 minutes.

But in the second-half Sassuolo stepped up a gear with topscorer Riccardo Zampagna restoring their lead before Emiliano Salvetti rounded out the scoring in injury-time.

Sassuolo are now fourth on the Serie B table, six points behind leaders Lecce, but only one point off second-placed Cesena with six games to play.

In Romania's Liga I, Spase Dilevski started and played 75 minutes as Universitatea Craiova produced a shock to defeat FC Vaslui 1-0.

Universitatea's relegation worries have been eased by the victory which takes them up to tenth, six points out of the drop zone.

In Ireland's Setanta Cup, Aussie goalkeeper Chris O'Connor was an unused sub as Bohemians reached the final with a 1-0 win over Linfield, to seal a 3-1 aggregate victory.
