Holland captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst admitted his side fell well short of the required standard in their Euro 2008 qualifying goalless draw against Romania.
The result kept the Oranje three points clear of their opponents at the top of Group G, but it was an uninspiring spectacle with little for the Dutch fans to get excited about.
"We did not play well today," Van Bronckhorst told SBS 6. "It was bad and weak and they (Romania) won almost every battle.
"We started better in the second half, but we hardly created any chances."
The Barcelona star was unhappy about the state of the pitch at the Rotterdam Kuip.
He said: "It was very difficult because we played the ball to each other at the back and on this pitch it was difficult to get control of the ball. The circulation of the ball was also too slow because of the surface.
"We have lost two points tonight. On Wednesday we really must win in Slovenia."
Coach Marco van Basten was not satisfied with the performance of his side.
He said: "It was not a match we enjoyed tonight. It was not good at all."
Van Basten praised goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg, but could not do the same for any other members of his side.
"He did a fine job," said the coach. "I don't think that it would be appropriate to compliment any of the other players.
"But when I was playing international games I was part of games like this. This sometimes just happens and we must not make a drama of this game."
On Wednesday, Van Basten takes his side to Slovenia, who have just four points from their four games after a 0-0 draw at Albania on Saturday.
Romania, meanwhile, will welcome Group G minnows Luxembourg in confident mood, with coach Victor Piturca delighted by their performance in Rotterdam.
"Our organisation was perfect for periods," he said. "Holland did not play at their best because we did not allow them to."
