The Oranje are in one of the toughest pools alongside France, Romania and world champions Italy, and face an uphill task to qualify from Group C

But Hamburg captain Van der Vaart believes it is an advantage to play other title contenders in the first round, and has backed his side to claim a second European crown 20 years on from their maiden success in West Germany in 1988.

"We are going to Austria and Switzerland to win and of course we are able to do that," Van der Vaart told AD Sportwereld.

"Holland in good form can win any tournament - but every team will have this attitude. We need a bit of luck.

"I see it as an advantage that Holland face strong opponents in the first round.

"If we come through and have played against them already, we have a good chance of winning Euro 2008."
