HAMBURG midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has rubbished reports linking him with Real Madrid and insists he will be playing in the Bundesliga next season.
The Spanish media reported on Thursday a 20million euro deal had been agreed between Hamburg and Madrid, but the Holland playmaker reacted with surprise when confronted with the news, insisting he knew nothing of any proposed deal.
Van der Vaart promised to chase up the story himself, and on Friday confirmed there was no substance to the speculation.
"I have checked everything out and there is nothing in it," he said. "I expect that I will be playing another year in Hamburg."
The 25-year-old was close to joining Valencia last season but was denied a transfer by erstwhile Hamburg coach Huub Stevens.
The speculation over Van der Vaart's future has returned with renewed vigour this summer - with Atletico Madrid also linked with the playmaker - and the player admits the ongoing rumours have grown tiresome.
"Yesterday it was Atletico and today it is Real - it will probably keep going on like this," he added.
Van der Vaart's contract runs until 2010, although he can leave the club for as little as 1.5 million euros in 12 months' time.
Hamburg have no intention of letting him quit the club before his contract expires, however, with new coach Martin Jol earmarking the Dutchman as a key member of his squad ahead of his first season at the helm.
"Van der Vaart is one of the most productive midfielders in Europe and was involved in around 25 to 30 goals last season and I hope we keep hold of him," said Jol.
