Talking to AAP, van Marwijk said he had to return to Europe as soon as possible to watch the majority of the Socceroos squad plying their trade on the continent.

"I have to go back as soon as possible as I need all the time," he said.

With the 65-year-old returning to Europe, it's unclear whether we'll ever see the short-contracted Socceroos coach on Australian soil again.

"A team needs weapons," he said.

"That can be strong players, dangerous in the air, creative players. Or sometimes teams have fast creative players but they cannot score. So you also need players who can score."

Tomi Juric represents one of relatively few in-form Australian strikers, although it could be poignant that Van Marwijk made no mention of the likes of Kwame Yeboah or Golgol Mebrahtu, who have been the two high-profile Socceroos' forward bolters.

"We are making plans already to see where we are going to scout, starting this weekend already," van Marwijk said.

"I want to see as many players as possible but that's difficult to see 30-40 players in seven weeks, it's not possible."

"I will watch players in England, in Switzerland like (Tomi) Juric, in Germany.

"(Robbie) Kruse is playing just over the border and (Mat) Leckie is playing in Berlin."
