Bert van Marwijk says if he thought that the Socceroos might be mauled by France like Saudi Arabia were in their World Cup opener yesterday, he wouldn't be turning up.
Van Marwijk's former employers the Saudis were thrashed 5-0 by Russia in Moscow on Thursday.
Australia beat the Green Falcons 3-2 and had a 2-2 draw with them in qualifying for the World Cup through Asia.
The Dutchman said the Socceroos cannot fear a similar heavy defeat from Les Bleus, and insisted he has confidence in the green and gold.
"We cannot come tomorrow if we think like that," he told the media.
"We worked very hard in the last four weeks. We must be very well orgainsed not for five, 10 minutes but 90 plus extra time. We must be very fit. I have a lot of confidence in my players. If we play 10 times against France, maybe we lose eight or nine times.
"We have worked to get a situation where we lose five or six times but maybe we get a few draws. If we play and have the guts then maybe we have a chance. It is very important to be yourself. It sounds easy but it’s not easy.
"You must have the experience. You must not say afterwards that we had a good chance to beat France. To be yourself is not easy on a world stage against a team like France.
"We have to have a lot of discipline in the way we play and we must have the guts to believe in ourselves. I’m not going to talk about team selection because the players don’t know it."
