Van Marwijk and the Socceroos are in Oslo preparing for Saturday’s friendly against Norway, before they take on Colombia in London.

The head coach named 29 players in his first national team squad, which was then whittled down to 26, although injured pair Trent Sainsbury and Matt Jurman are set to return to their clubs after the Norway game.

Van Marwijk said other players not named in the current squad could still make a successful case to be on the plane for Russia.

The likes of Daniel Arzani, Jamie Maclaren, Ryan McGowan, Alex Gersbach, Brad Smith and Mitch Langerak will be all hoping to force their way in over the next three months.

“This is not the final squad, it’s 26,” the Dutchman said.

“Sainsbury and Jurman are going to their clubs on Saturday because they didn't play for a long time, it’s too dangerous to let them play for five minutes. We discussed that before, and they know, but they are happy that they were here for a week, and I am happy that they are so far in their recovery already.

“I could also mention 60 players. We nominated Petratos and Nabbout, it’s the first time they have been in the national team. It’s the same for Susnjar. I am always open for a new player. When somebody somewhere stands up as a good player I am standing up for that.

"Those games the tests fit and we don't have to travel too much. And those are good opponents, with Holland I played against them. There were not a lot of possibilities, so you have to choose the best options."

van Marwijk is hoping to rotate as many players as possible against Norway and Colombia, with all three goalkeepers Mat Ryan, Brad Jones and Danny Vukovic to spend time on the pitch.

"I also told the players that I cannot promise that everyone will play," he said.

"I will try to let most players play a part. Maybe everybody. But it depends on a lot of things. I will never set those things before, because when I see something, I think okay, its important that I let it go for another 10 or 15 minutes....then I will change.

"I will have the freedom to let it go when I think I must let it go. All three goalkeepers will get game time."
