ITALIAN giants Juventus have touched down in Australia ahead of their clash with Melbourne Victory at Telstra Dome on Friday night.
The team arrived without star striker David Trezeguet, who was withdrawn from the squad late last week due to the impending birth of his first child.
However, the Bianconeri side still features seven internationals, including French defender Jonathan Zebina, former Chelsea star Tiago Mendes, and the Italian trio of Cristiano Zanetti, Raffaele Palladino and Alessandro Birindelli, who will lead the side against Victory.
The touring party also has a local flavour with Gosford-born goalkeeper Jess Vanstrattan expected to start in goal ahead of youngster Cristiano Novembre as regular first choice 'keeper Gianluigi Buffon is on international duty with the Italian national team ahead of Euro 2008.
A member of the Joeys side which came painstakingly close to being crowned World Champions in 1999, Vanstrattan is excited at the prospect of playing in front of a potential full house on home soil.
"I haven't been back to play in Australia for quite a while," he said.
"It should be good to play in front of the Australian public so hopefully we can put on a good performance."
Vanstrattan was linked with a move to the A-League last year prior to signing with Juventus, and hopes the match will help to further boost the popularity of the sport in Australia.
"There's been a lot of enthusiasm after the World Cup and it's good to see that the Australian public are really getting behind football," he said.
"Hopefully it can just get bigger and bigger and become another code that competes on the level with rugby union and AFL. For us as footballers that would be the ultimate goal."
The 25-year old has spent the entirety of his senior career in Italy, moving to Juventus following a lengthy transfer saga where after initially being released by Verona, the one-time national champion launched an appeal nullifying the move.
His transfer was finally completed though in September last year when Verona agreed to a one-year loan deal, finally securing his passage to the club.
Having spent the majority of his recent career in relative obscurity, Vanstrattan is thrilled to be involved with a club of Juventus'
stature.
He said: "It is one of the biggest clubs in the world, its a big organisation."
"When we come to Australia and places like this on the other side of the world, we know we have got a fan base there as well and it makes you realise you are part of a big club and an important club."
"Wherever you go you are followed and always under scrutiny but it is a good buzz and to be a part of this squad is just an honour."
