Vargas said the stress of travelling and being away from his Melbourne-based family was something he had to consider should he be selected in Pim Verbeek's squad for the game in Brisbane on October 15.

The 29-year-old was named in several Socceroos squads during the winter but could not break through to make his international debut.

Vargas has not heard from Verbeek since and was not expecting to be part of the Socceroos' plans for the clash with Qatar.

"If it happens, it will be a massive surprise but there's a lot of boys in good form. There's a lot of good young boys in the A-League that I think can step up," he said.

"If it were to happen it's something I'd have to have a good hard think about too.

"I'm a pretty relaxed family guy. I'm loving playing in Melbourne and it's hard for people to understand exactly what it takes to be a full-time professional and for the boys playing overseas and leaving their families coming to represent their country.

"It takes a lot out of the players and that's something I experienced being away for a month. I thoroughly enjoyed it but it's something I'll have to consider as well.

"It's a big if, it's a massive if."
