SOCCEROO defender Rodrigo Vargas provided a brutally honest assessment of the national team after their 1-1 draw with Melbourne Victory this afternoon.

“To be honest, playing a club side and the game is less than a week away, you'd be expecting to win these kinds of games. We struggled to break them down.
“So there are no excuses and I'm sure the coach will have a few words with the boys and I'm sure a few boys will be thoroughly disappointed today. I'm sure'll there'll be a few interesting things said by Pim.
“To cop a goal early on is a bit disappointing and I somehow think some of the boys are still trying to figure out the coach's tactics and the way of playing. I'm sure he'll speak to us more in depth later tonight.”
Vargas conceded that there were many differing styles played by A-League coaches, which makes it more difficult for the local players. “So it's about adjusting and obviously he'll be able to tell which players have adjusted to the way he wants to play.
The Socceroos improved markedly in the second half, although Vargas was not reading too much into it.
“Whether it's an experienced player or a younger boy, it's up to us to do the job.”
