There are 10 months to go until the final Socceroo World Cup selection and the likes of Jade North, David Carney, Matt Spiranovic and Mark Viduka are all either on the fringes of their clubs' first teams or in Viduka's case, not with a club at all.

"I'm really worried about those players," Verbeek told the media today. "They have to start playing games."

Verbeek would like such players to move clubs and gain regular game time. "They have to be 100% fit for when I make my final selections," he warned.

James Holland is another example. He plays in the AZ Alkmaar reserves side but needs to step up this season into a first team role. Otherwise, the former Jet needs to find a new club, says Verbeek.

Lucas Neill is currently uncontracted although Verbeek was unconcerned about his skipper's club situation.

"I put him on the list [for Ireland] in case he makes the final decision soon," he said. "We need some experience in the back line as you can see.

"He's training by himself, he will come to Ireland and he's always good around the team in the dressing room and in the hotel."

Verbeek added he'd seen Nikita Rukavytsya three times at club level with his Dutch club FC Twente.

The former Glory man has been played on the left of midfield for his club but Verbeek sees him as a possible striker in the national.

"We play with three strikers [in the national team]. I never play with a lone striker," he said in response to a question over where the exciting youngster fits into the national team structure.

No A-League players were named in the squad due to the travelling involved in playing a midweek game in Europe.

"I think the [A-League] coaches will be happy," said Verbeek.

Verbeek also said midfielder Vinnie Grella would miss the first EPL round with his club Blackburn through injury and for that reason also misses out on selection for the Ireland game.
