The Fulham custodian has been in outstanding form for Fulham this season with the Cottagers still chasing a place in Europe.

His performances in the green and gold have been widely acclaimed as well, saving the Socceroos from disaster on a number of occasions during World Cup qualifiers.

Both Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are thought to be monitoring Schwarzer and Verbeek isn't surprised that the keeper is attracting admirers.

The Socceroos coach said: "He has had one of his best seasons. It is good for him, good for Fulham and good for us (Australia).

"I am not surprised there is interest."

When asked if he thought Schwarzer had been Australia's best player during the qualification campaign, Verbeek said he wasn't in the business of picking out individuals - either the best player or the worst player.

Schwarzer himself has told Fulham's website that he is very happy with life at the Cottage. He said: "It's been brilliant. I couldn't have asked for a better season really.

"Hopefully by the end of the season we will have finished seventh and I can hold my hand on my heart and say, 'I don't think it could have gone any better'.

"To be where we are with two games to go is unbelievable, especially when you compare it to last season. I wasn't here then, but I saw it from afar and I experienced a similar situation when I first moved to Middlesbrough, so I know what it's like to be in that position and how hard it can be, so to be fighting for a place in Europe now is a remarkable turnabout."
