The Socceroos play Japan in Melbourne in mid-June with some speculation it could be a dead rubber between the group's two top sides.

Speaking today at Suncorp Stadium, Verbeek was keen to play down hopes that Australia would be home and hosed by next winter - and predicted it could be a rollercoaster ride with an MCG thriller at the end.

"I think the competiton will be decided in the final game," he said.

However, for tomorrow night's clash with Qatar, Verbeek was typically tightlipped over team selections.

But he was blunt about complacency: "If there is any under-estimating of them [Qatar] then it will be my fault.

"They will come for the counter attack, they have dangerous strikers. Look at the last games they have played.

"We have to take risks but it's all about the balance. How much risk are we going to take to win this game."

But the Dutch coach is looking forward to the return of talisman Tim Cahill – a factor which has pushed ticket sales in the last few days to within touching distance of a sellout.

Verbeek added: "How important is Tim Cahill? That's what we'll see tomorrow night at 9.45.

"We know how important he is. He scores goals. If I'm a defender and I play on Timmy Cahill, I'm sure I have a difficult time.

"We know it's good to have players like that in our team. But no I don't have to change my strategy to have him [Cahill] in."

Verbeek joked about another returning 'Roo, Craig Moore. "The boys don't like him at all..." he said.

"But like the other 25, he's looked good. And it's a luxury to have him for selection."
