ARGENTINA midfielder Juan Sebastian Veron has paid tribute to the impact Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero have had on the national team.
The former Manchester United man felt Barcelona's Messi and Atletico Madrid forward Aguero were the difference between the two sides in Argentina's 4-1 friendly win over Mexico last week in the United States.
The two youngsters bagged a goal apiece in San Diego and Veron is expecting a repeat performance on Sunday when the Albicelestes take on Ecuador in the fifth round of fixtures in the South American World Cup qualifying zone.
He told the Clarin newspaper: "Last week I watched him (Messi) and Aguero together. They were impressive in the Mexico match. They played very well. We'll have to run a lot behind them.
"I love the way Messi plays. We always talk a lot because I like how he plays, but also how he is off the pitch.
"He learns from his family, who take care of him and ensure he keeps his feet on the ground.
"I also think Aguero is a good guy too, even though we are just starting to get to know each other. I think Argentina are too good with them on the pitch."
Veron is though anticipating a tough match at Estadio Antonio Vespucio Liberti this weekend.
He added: "The World Cup qualifiers have become very tough because the national teams are made up of players who play in Europe. And to play in Europe, you need to be at a good level."
Argentina follow their clash with Ecuador with a match against arch rivals Brazil in Belo Horizonte next Wednesday.
Veron said: "It's a derby. It's one of those matches you always dream about playing in and winning. The entire world is waiting for this match. It's great."
Argentina lie second in the World Cup qualification table on nine points, one less than leaders Paraguay.
