Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has admitted the negotiations surrounding his transfer to Tottenham made him worry it would not happen.
The 25-year-old defender joined Tottenham from Ajax Amsterdam earlier this month after a protracted period of talks.
Vertonghen has confirmed negotiations ' took too long' because Ajax would not pay 15 percent of the transfer fee to the Belgian as he was entitled under his contract.
"Me and Tottenham we confirmed it very quickly, and Ajax and Tottenham too, but there was a clause and it took one month," Vertonghen said.
"It took too long and I was too stressed in that period."
But despite having to wait longer than expected to join Spurs, Vertonghen is enjoying getting to know his new teammates during the London club's USA tour.
"We have to create a feeling that we can trust each other and we are working on that in training and during the games," Vertonghen said.
"I have played with Michael Dawson, with (William) Gallas and now today with (Younes) Kaboul, they are great defenders and I am learning from them."
Vertonghen claims he already feels at home at Tottenham, after six seasons at Amsterdam Arena.
"Everybody is very down to earth, they are great lads, they are helping me with everything," Vertonghen said. "I like the guys.
"They are just a normal team with normal guys and that is (why) I feel good here."
