Magic, who had won 6-2 and 6-0 in recent rounds, was handed a reality check in a 7-5 loss to Northcote City.

In an amazing game, it was scoreless after half an hour.

But Magic held the upper hand at the break thanks to John Thornley and Goran Talevski, with City man Bradley Norton converting a penalty in between.

Talevski doubled the lead moments after half time to make it 3-1.

City substitute and league leading goal scorer Trent Rixon made an impact with two goals in as many minutes to level the ledger.

The endless run of goals continued with George Papadopoulos giving Magic the lead, before Northcote striker James Kalifatidis pulled one back.

Thornley secured his brace in the 70th minute before Rixon was denied from the penalty spot.

But Kalifatidis also got his brace with 15 minutes to play to make it 5-5.

Norton scored his second penalty and Kalifatidis secured his hat trick with a minute to play to end the amazing 7-5 win.

HEIDELBERG United scored a shock 3-0 victory over league leader Richmond on Sunday.

With minutes to play, substitute Antonio La Verde made it three after coming on for Alexovski, thanks to a cut back from Osagie Ederaro.

DANDENONG Thunder handed Oakleigh, another top five team, a 3-0 shellacking.

The home side took the lead midway through the first half when a pass from the centre of midfielder from Luke Sherbon spotted a run from Geoff Kellaway.

Kellaway took a touch past advancing Cannons keeper Griffin McMaster, before placing home into an empty net.

Moments before the break Scott Bulloch cut back for Jamie Reed to apply a simple finish and double the lead.

Keeper Stuart Webster had a fine game in goals for the Thunder, before Kellaway fed Reed behind to secure his brace and the three points.

MELBOURNE Knights recorded a surprise 2-1 win over a struggling and eventually eight-man Hume City side.

City went ahead early in the second half thanks to a spot kick from Ross Thompson, after Alfonso Opazo was recklessly brought down in the area.

The game took a dramatic and unusual turn soon after.

City custodian Lupce Acevski distributed the ball after taking it in the air, before sending Knights striker Kevin Townson to the ground.

The referee gave Acevski a straight red card and awarded the Knights a penalty, allowing the same man to send substitute keeper Marijo Roza the wrong way.

Frustrated goal scorer Thompson then received two yellow cards in quick succession to send Hume down to nine men.

Knights striker Jacob Colosimo was dragged down by Isiyan Erdogan in the area, earning him his second yellow and Townson his second successful penalty.
