OAKLEIGH moved to the top of the Victorian Premier League ladder as Hume City maintained its perfect start to the season.
The Cannons punished a largely wasteful Green Gully on Saturday afternoon to win 2-1.
Experienced midfielder Bill Damianos opened the scoring against the run of play with a superb strike after half an hour.
The Cavaliers pulled a goal back after the break thanks to a penalty from Steven Burton.
But Oakleigh responded immediately as striker Michael Curcija met Cameron Watson's set piece to slide the ball home on the hour mark.
Hume City made it three-straight wins with a 3-1 victory at Heidelberg United.
The teams went into the break scoreless, but a goal from Zoran Petrevski in the 57th minute gave City the advantage.
Hume scored two goals in 10 minutes midway through the half through Andy Vlahos and Dusko Delic, effectively ending the contest.
Heidelberg managed to find a consolation goal courtesy of Sayeedreza Hossaini in stoppage time.
South Melbourne secured a come from behind 3-3 draw at Northcote City on Saturday.
They regained experienced midfielder Carl Recchia from injury and Fernando De Moraes earned his first start of the season.
He immediately repaid boss Vaughan Coveny with the opening goal of the game after a quarter of an hour.
But Northcote responded less than 15 minutes later as captain Trent Rixon, who had earlier hit the crossbar, cushioned a header for Nick Tzoulis to score from the edge of the area.
Rixon did it himself soon after, first firing into the roof of the net to give his side the lead and then beating South keeper Peter Zois in a one-on-one to make it 3-1 at the break.
But the visitors did not give in and impressive midfielder Daniel Vasilevski pulled one back midway through the second half.
With City desperately trying to hold on, Vasilevski found himself free at the back post to slide home his second less than 10 minutes from time, sending South Melbourne home with a point.
Melbourne Knights and Sunshine George Cross played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at Knights Stadium on Sunday night.
All four goals came in the final 15 minutes of the opening half, with George Cross' Kyle Joryeff opening the scoring.
Knights responded immediately through Kevin Townson and took the lead just before the break through Jean Dubois.
But Joryeff pegged one back as the sides went into the break on level terms.
For the second week in a row, the Knights could not secure a win as George Cross keeper Martin John and the woodwork proved too hard to beat in the final moments.
On Saturday night, Richmond inflicted more misery on Dandenong Thunder with a 3-0 away win.
The impressive form of Richmond's Daniel Visevic continued, scoring for the third time in as many games with the opening goal on 12 minutes.
