Melbourne Victory goalkeeper Lawrence Thomas says he is unfazed about the possibility of losing Besart Berisha to suspension.
Victory could potentially lose Berisha should he be found guilty in Thursday night’s tribunal hearing for “unsporting conduct towards a match official”.
The Kosovo international could face a minimum four-game ban should he be found guilty after a push on fourth official Daniel Elder in last week’s 2-2 away draw to Adelaide United.
If Berisha cops a suspension, the responsibility could be left to the unexperienced Pierce Waring and recent loan signing Kenny Athiu, however coach Kevin Muscat said last week they were giving the new man time to rest after a long NPLVIC season with Heidelberg United.
But Thomas said he was not worried about their strike force should Berisha get rubbed out.
“In no disrespect to Berisha, I'm not nervous at all,” Thomas said on Thursday.
“We have a lot of quality in this team, especially up front.
“But obviously we want him in our team. If it's not to be, then we'll be more than capable of getting the job done.”
Thomas also would not be drawn into commenting about the altercation, with many arguing the fourth official initiated contact first.
“To be completely honest I haven’t seen the incident at all,” he said.
“From what I’ve heard from most people, it’s a similar opinion (that it was light contact).
“It is what it is, Bes is obviously a passionate bloke on the football field… (and) I hope he’s available to play.”
Victory take on Central Coast away on Sunday night.
