Allsopp, 32, signed from Al-Rayyan in Qatar ahead of the 2010 MLS season, has one year left on his contract with the black and red and has yet to be released from his contract there.
Victory coach Ernie Merrick confirmed the club had spoken to former Victory striker Danny Allsopp -but insisted a deal was not on the cards yet.
"We certainly haven't moved down the path of re-signing Danny, that's all been media speculation," Merrick said.
"He would certainly be a great player to re-sign but we've got the squad that we need right now."
However, au.fourfourtwo.com understands his representatives remain in talks with DC about his future and with the club looking to reinvigorate its squad after a disastrous season, Allsopp could be on the move.
Rumours have swirled since the DC’s season ended in late October that the powerful Australian may seek a return to his hometown club Melbourne Victory.
With striker Archie Thompson close to full fitness such a move would offer fans the chance to see the famed Allsopp and Thompson strikeforce back in the blue shirt, supplemented and supported by Robbie Kruse and Carlos Hernandez for a potential;ly devastating attack force.
But right now, Allsopp is a DC player with a contract for next season.
This season, DC finished bottom of the Eastern Conference losing 20 of their 30 matches. Their final game on October 23 was a loss against Toronto 3-2.
Allsopp appeared in 23 games, made 18 starts and scored five times to equal Andy Najar as the club’s top scorer.
Allsopp, a former Hull and Manchester City striker, also scored the game-winning goal in DC’s 3-2 friendly win at RFK stadium over AC Milan last May.
