Australian winger Ajdin Hrustic was sent off after 23 minutes in FC Groningen's 1-0 home loss to Willem II in the Dutch Eredivisie overnight.
Hrustic was yellow carded in the 19th minute for a poor tackle, before receiving his marching orders for a second bookable offence four minutes later.
The 21-year-old, who has one Socceroos cap, was making his fourth start of the Eredivisie season.
On 23 minutes, Hrustic attempted to chest down a ball over the top which had been headed on by Willem defender Jop van der Linden, but used his right arm.
The referee deemed the handball was worthy of a booking and sent off Hrustic.
