“The team worked well collectively but we’ve still got a lot of work to do because it’s over two legs,” Vidmar said after the match.

“I was pleased with the quality of the entire team and they worked the hardest they ever have this season.”

Vidmar also singled out Galekovic’s performance as United now prepares to face Sydney FC in the Hyundai A-League on Saturday.

“Eugene was fantastic," he added. "We’ve got another game in Sydney on Saturday so we now have to focus on that before we play the Antlers again on Wednesday, and they showed that they are a very very good side.”

Kashima Coach Oswaldo Oliveira was also complimenting of United’s effort saying, “Adelaide United are a very good side and they have a very strong defence.”

The 1-1 scoreline leaves The Reds all that closer to a place in the semi finals of the AFC Champions League, unchartered territory for an Australian club.

Suddenly next Wednesday’s return leg at Hindmarsh Stadium becomes one of the biggest sporting events to be held in South Australia.
