Vidmar has controversially chosen to keep Mustafa Amini only on standby for the squad - and will only be drafted in if there's an injury to another player.

The former Adelaide United coach was restricted to only three players from each A-League club for the squad to minimise disruption to the domestic competition.

But Vidmar has elected to only select two from table-topping Central Coast Mariners in his squad - keeper Mat Ryan and skipper Oliver Bozanic - with Amini and striker Bernie Ibini on standby.

One of them will replace Sydney FC's Terry Antonis if the injury-doubt midfielder fails a late medical.

Adelaide United defender Antony Golec and Melbourne Victory midfielder Isaka Cernak get their first call-up for this round of qualification, along with Brisbane Roar midfielder Rocco Visconte who has recovered from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the squad for the past three matches.

Overseas striker Kerem Bulut also receives his first selection in a Qantas Australian U23s squad having previously made appearances for the Qantas Joeys and Qantas Young Socceroos.

Notable omissions include in-form Gold Coast youngsters Ben Halloran and James Brown.

Discussions are also ongoing to add other overseas-based players, Aaron Mooy (St Mirren, Scotland), Tommy Oar (FC Utrceht, Netherlands) and Mathew Leckie (Borussia Monchengladbach, Germany), to the squad for the UAE match on 22 February with their club commitments making them definitely unavailable for the Uzbekistan match.
