ADELAIDE United coach Aurelio Vidmar has his eyes fixed on the future after an encouraging 2-0 win for the Reds over Brisbane Roar on Saturday night.
Bottom-club Adelaide, who can still avoid the wooden spoon, begin their AFC Champions League adventure on February 24 at home to Pohang Steelers.
And Vidmar believes Saturday's night performance bodes well for the club, who've had a difficult 2009/2010 season.
"We can't dwell on what's happened in the past, we've just got to think about what we want to do for the future and I thought tonight they were absolutely brilliant from the very first minute," Vidmar said.
"They stuck to the plan and really rammed it home, and with a little bit more cunningness we could have got another one.
"But full credit to our boys, they've been working extremely hard over the last three or four weeks."
But Vidmar refused to get too far ahead of himself with the Reds still to face Newcastle in the final round of the A-League regular season.
He added: "We can't think about what's happened in the past...we've just got to focus our attention on one, analysing this game and what we did well and where we can improve, and get on the track again next week and worry about the Newcastle Jets.
"We spoke about still going out there and fulfilling our commitments, and our commitments were to perform as well as we could in the A-League, and we've got to do that again next week."
The Reds boss was also enthused by debutant Marco Flores, who received a welcome round of applause from the excited Hindmarsh crowd upon his arrival on the pitch as a second-half substitute.
Vidmar added: "He (Flores) is not 100 per cent fit and he needs games, but I thought when he came on he's got that ability to change the tempo of the game, speed it up when he has to, slow it down when he needs to, and a couple of the balls in the final third were really good."
And the Adelaide coach believes Saturday's win will also be a boost to his backline, who hadn't kept a clean sheet since a 1-0 win in Brisbane in early December.
"That (clean sheet) was really important, and it will give Eugene and the rest of the defenders a lot of confidence."
