The head coaching position of Adelaide United has been resolved and Aurelio Vidmar - who has held the position on an interim basis since the departure of John Kosmina - is the man to lead the side into the next A-League season.

Ange Postecoglou, former coach of Australia's youth teams was a notable candidate. Along with Postecoglou, Adelaide officials said that Vidmar beat a list of 40 potential coaches from Australia and abroad for the role.

“It’s a privilege and a great honour to be coaching this great club and I look forward to sinking my teeth into the work that is ahead of us,” Vidmar said.

“I am really looking forward to working with the calibre of players that we have in the squad as the future of the club looks bright."

Adelaide United Chairman Dario Fontanarosa paid tribute to former coach John Kosmina, and also unveiled former Victorian State Coach Phil Stubbins as Vidmar's assitant.

To date, Vidmar has led the side four times during their first Asian Champions League campaign with a return of one win, one draw and two losses.

A decorated former Socceroo with 18 goals, Vidmar has played club football in Australia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Spain and Japan. He was also top scorer in Belgium for the 1994/95 season.
