ADELAIDE United coach Aurelio Vidmar says the Reds would be expecting top dollar for their leading players if they are poached by J-League clubs this season.
The Japanese competition has relaxed its import rules allowing clubs to recruit an extra overseas player, providing they are from within the Asian Football Confederation.
Players from all A-League teams will be under scrutiny but United's shock win over Kashima Antlers in the quarter final of the Champions League is sure to have grabbed the attention of talent scouts.
Rumours have already circulated about United captain Travis Dodd and Eugene Galekovic who are two of the club's leading players.
Vidmar said Adelaide would want adequate compensation if the experienced duo were taken.
"You can't replace a Eugene Galekovic in my eyes, you can't replace a Travis Dodd," he said.
"Eugene is probably the in-form keeper in the competition and Travis is certainly playing outstanding football.
"You just can't go out on the street [to replace them] or even the players in the A-League, there's not too many players who are free or available."
But the Reds coach was philosophical about the extra attention his players might receive.
"That's understandable, it happens all over the world, and there's nothing you can do really. You try to assemble the strongest squad you possibly can," he said.
"You are always going to have people talking about them and at this point there's nothing that's come across our table, it's all speculation.
"If something does come up the player has to have a look at it and the club has to have a look at it as the club has to be happy as well."
Vidmar was also accepting of the newly-formed Gold Coast side's decision to send information brochures to every player in the A-League.
He added: "Everyone who is out of contract - they'd have a list like we do and you have a look at the list and you have a look where your deficiencies are and where you'd like to strengthen your squad and you start the ball rolling.
"They've got no players in their roster so they've got to work quicker than most."
