Melbourne City attacking midfielder Dario Vidosic says he should be match fit for Friday night’s clash against Brisbane Roar.
Youngster Dylan Pierias replaced Vidosic in City’s 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets on Sunday, as the 31-year-old suffered from a TFL (tensor fasciae latae) injury in the pre-match warm-ups.
The key man said it was just a precaution and was ready to face Brisbane at home on Friday.
“I was having shots on goal in the warm-up and I felt it,” Vidosic told FTBL. “It just seized up and I grabbed it. I attempted one more shot, but still felt it, so I alerted the physio.
"I had just done a few sprints just before I was getting ready for the game and it felt OK.
“With so many games coming up, the coaches and physios weren’t feeling good about risking it without a proper chance to re-test it and see how it feels.
“It would have to be something very major for me not to play on Friday, so I think they decided in the best interest to miss this one. I’m disappointed, but happy we got the win.”
Vidosic added it wasn’t a major issue in the lead-up to the Jets game.
“I had a little bit of tightness throughout last week, but everything was fine on Saturday,” he said.
“It just flared up a bit after a session where I felt a bit of tightness in that spot. It felt good before the warm-ups on Sunday, but unfortunately with one of the shots towards the end of the warm-up, I felt it then.
“We’ll manage it, they’ve looked after me well and we’ll see what happens this weekend.”
