DARIO Vidosic was always confident of making the final cut for the World Cup despite others suggesting it was touch and go whether he would feature in Pim Verbeek's chosen twenty-three.
With the final 23-man cut looming earlier this week, Vidosic's name was among those mentioned who could miss out on selection.
The youngster, who is contracted to Nuremburg, but has been on loan with Bundesliga 2 outfit Duisberg, said he felt he had done everything in his power to convince Verbeek he was worth sticking with.
"I was confident, every footballer has to have confidence in their ability and I think I could help the team a lot. I've feel as though I've done well," he said.
"We had two weeks to show Pim everything everyone's got. I tried to do my best while I got the chance. I got the chance against New Zealand and it was great to get a debut goal.
That goal at the MCG put his name up in lights and while Verbeek said that one performance wouldn't shape his decision, it certainly helped Vidosic's cause.
A minor injury during training proved only a hiccup for Vidosic, who has established himself as a future star for the national team in the past six months.
In the end, it was defender Rhys Williams who missed the cut after struggling with a groin injury. Vidosic doesn't know if that made the difference of whether he made the squad or not, but he's just glad to be there.
"Pim knows what I can do, and it was unfortunate for Rhys that he's had those problems. I wish him all the best for the future. It's great to be part of the team and I'm raring to go for the first game," Vidosic said.
