Phoenix were unlucky not to emerge with the win, but will be encouraged by taking their first point on Australian soil this campaign.

Roar managed just one shot on target against the depleted visitors at Cbus Stadium on the Gold Coast.

Man of the match, Vidosic, said the cellar dwellers had answered their critics who heaped scorn on the kiwi outfit during the week.

None more so than their own coach, Darije Kalezic, who said "we don't have a team of winners".

Vidosic said the performance was sweet "especially after everything during the week as well and everything that was said about us.

"Against Brisbane previously we were three-nil and gave it away, the week before two-nil up and gave that away.

"So I'm very very proud of the guys after a tough week and being called, we don't have winners.

"We challenged each other and I think tonight was a good performance but unfortunately we couldn't take the three points which I think we probably deserved."

He added: We know it's a tough place, tough conditions and the humidity - it's a little bit different to what we have in Wellington.

"I'm really proud of the boys, they can hold their heads up. We'll stay here for a few days then head over to Perth and try and get the same result as last time with the three points."

The result sees Brisbane move, momentarily at least, into the top six, while the Nix remain two points adrift at the bottom of the table.
