Dario Vidosic’s main priority is to ignore the hype - and break into the first team as striker for his new German club.
After a memorable debut season in top-flight football with Queensland Roar, 19 year old Vidosic caught the attention of several overseas clubs, but says that while the move to FC Nurnberg is exciting, it will be sad to leave his hometown club.
“I have a lot of good memories here at Queensland Roar – just thinking back to the previous season, it’s all been good memories,” Vidosic told his old club's website.
“But it’s something I guess you’ve got to do and it happens in the football world. I’m really looking forward to it though; it’s going to be exciting.
“I want to go over there thinking that I’ll play first team because if I didn’t think that, they’d be no point in going over. I don’t expect to get in straight away, I’ve still got a lot to learn about the game there, but I definitely hope to at some point.
“It will be a step-up to a level that I’ve never been around before and even though the game here is a good standard, this move is a good stepping-stone for me. Even when I went there, I felt like I fitted in almost straight away, I didn’t feel too much out of place. So definitely, after some training with them and once I’ve adapted to it, it will be a lot better.”
While many will be asking questions of the young Queenslander’s future beyond his first major transfer, perhaps hoping to claim ‘I was there when that kid played his first game’, Vidosic is less inclined to get ahead of himself just yet.
“Hopefully, maybe the Socceroos in the future, but at the moment FC Nurnberg are my number one priority. Just making sure that I can establish myself there and continue on from there, and whatever happens, happens.”
