Dukes has missed virtually half the season with an achilles problem but eased his way back into action against Middlesbrough last week.

He is now looking to force his way into Joe Kinnear's starting XI as the Geordies take on Stoke City this weekend.

Viduka told the Chronicle: "I just want to start winning games and picking up points.

"The last six months have been very difficult."

The Australian forward said it had been especially painful to be out of action when the club had been struggling for results earlier in the campaign.

He said: "You want to be playing games week-in, week-out, especially when times are tough.

"I think I have a lot to offer the team.

"Looking forward, I hope every training session and every game I’m involved in I can get fitter and fitter."

There is strong competition for the striking places at Newcastle but Viduka is determined to force his way in and build up some momentum.

“I have to play some games now. There is almost half the season gone and I would love to rediscover my form from last season," he said.
