The song, which has captured the imagination of football fans in the north east of England, was penned by singer/songwriter, and Middlesbrough fan, Alistair Griffin.

Based on the tune of Leonard Cohen’s 'Hallelujah', the song celebrates Viduka's striking abilities in a football serenade that even had his team-mates singing in the dressing room.

Alistair's music lawyers are currently negotiating permission from Cohen's publishers to allow the download to be made publicly available. These discussions are expected conclude shortly, after which the download will be made available.

Alistair Griffin said: "This song came about because I am passionate about football and music. Viduka is out of contract at the end of this season and I wanted to persuade him to stay on at Middlesbrough using a completely different approach - a song that shows him how important he is to the fans.

"Now, Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate has embraced the tune as a way of raising money for his chosen charity, MacMillan Cancer Relief. As a result, the song will be one of the UK's first charity downloads. It's not my most important musical work but it has been great fun, especially if Viduka signs next season!"

Amazing Tunes founder Paul Campbell said: "We are delighted to be able to help such a worthy cause with such a great song. Amazing Tunes will be giving 100 percent of the revenue received from downloads to the nominated charity.

"A few weeks ago, we were involved in another charity song in praise of Alan Shearer, which was downloaded by Toon fans – it'll be interesting to see if ‘Boro fans are more loyal and generous!"

Mark Viduka Song Lyrics

I heard there was a secret ball
Southgate dreamed it would beat them all
But you don’t really play the long ball do ya

It goes like this the full pitch width
Downing’s cross and Boateng’s flick
The baffled keeper can’t stop Mark Viduka

Mark Viduka Mark Viduka
Mark Viduka Mark Viduka

Defence was strong but you needed youth
Pogatetz and Woodgate too
Just to stop Ronaldo running through you

Well he tied mad dog to the physio’s chair
With Cattermole and Xavier’s hair
But from our team they can’t take Mark Viduka

Mark Viduka Mark Viduka
Mark Viduka Mark Viduka

Did my best it wasn’t much
Was praying for Yakubu’s touch
To find the golden boot of Mark Viduka

Then even though it all went wrong
Come Saturday the special one
Be shouting to John Terry, mark Viduka

Mark Viduka Mark Viduka
Mark Viduka Mark Viduka
