Mark Viduka speaks out about the new crisis engulfing his former club Leeds United.
As Leeds United’s fall from grace and financial woes continue to make headlines in the UK, Socceroo Mark Viduka has described his feeling of watching the All Whites drop from the Championship to League One. Leeds, containing another Australian Hayden Foxe, drew 1-1 with Ipswich on the weekend that is certain to send the club into England’s third-tier competition.
It was just six years ago that Viduka played alongside Harry Kewell, Alan Smith, Rio Ferdinand and Olivier Dacourt in the Champions League semi-final against Valencia. Viduka remains hopeful that the club can eventually claw its way back into England’s top flight.
Viduka told The Sun: “I feel devastated about Leeds getting relegated. I still live in Yorkshire and know just how much the club means to the people in that area. And it still means a lot to me as a former player, as it was a great club to be a part of and it’s a really big shame the way things have gone.
“Leeds still have the potential to bounce back because of their support base and the reputation of the club, which is still massive. I’d love someone to put a lot of money into the club. At the moment Leeds would probably represent the bargain of the century.
“When you look at the people who are investing in English football from America and whatever, Leeds United still has the potential to be one of the biggest clubs in the land again.”
