Newcastle United came away with a point from their goalless road trip to Portsmouth at the weekend and Viduka believes it's a sign of the times for the Toon after their dismal season.

New boss Kevin Keegan had a rough ride after taking over the Magpies but the burly striker reackons it's now all coming together.

"Everyone knows their job a lot better, and there's no confusion about your role in the team," he told the UK's Northern Echo.

"We're getting more and more used to the system now and, every game we play like this, we're getting better and better.

"If we had played them one or two months ago, it might well have been a different story.

"But we are a different team now and I think that game proved that. We were very resilient, and we had to be. We're a team that's very difficult to beat now."

He added: "When you go away from home, sometimes you just have dig in and take what you can.

"Portsmouth is one of the hardest places to go in the league, but we have come away with a point. We're disappointed we didn't get a win, but I think that is a sign of progress.

"We're satisfied that we were able to come down here and put in a performance that was always going to make us hard to beat.

"It was very different to the Spurs performance but, in its own kind of way, it was probably just as pleasing.

"It was a very difficult game, but it was always going to be. Portsmouth have some very good players - they're not in the FA Cup final for nothing - but we matched them in every area of the field.

"I don't really think we've produced enough games like that this season."
