Following the sale of Peter Crouch to Tottenham and the expected departure of David Nugent, Pompey are in need of a new striker and they see Viduka as an ideal replacement.

The former Socceroos captain is currently on holiday, but Hart said the 33-year-old has accepted a one-year deal.

"We'll be trying hard with getting players in over the next few days," Hart told reporters.

"Expecting is a word I don't use anymore, though. We are trying and hopefully there will be something we can do before next weekend."

"Mark has not come back from holiday. I'm not sure how much work he has done, but we can't wait until November to get him fit."

"We made him a good offer which has been accepted, so I'm just waiting to see what happens with him."

Hart is keen to have Viduka in his squad before next week's season opener against Fulham.
