Schwarzer managed to keep his team on even terms for most of the first half against Everton. He denied Tim Cahill with a low dive to his left and tipped an 18 yard strike from Louis Saha around the post.

Everton finally managed to get past him in the 45th minute however and another strike two minutes from time sealed 5th spot for Tim Cahill's Everton ahead of next week's FA cup final. Fulham finish in 7th place clinching the final Europa League spot.

Mark Viduka played 75 minutes for Newcastle but he couldn't repeat the scoring heroics of last season as Newcastle lost 1-0 to Aston Villa and the Magpies will be playing Championship football next season.

Brad Jones' Middlesbrough were also relegated after losing 2-1 to Lucas Neill's West Ham. Boro were on equal terms at 1-1 early in the second half and with favourable results being read around the ground they were in with a chance of survival.

Jones however let a weak shot from Junior Stanislas sneak past him and West Ham won the match 2-1. Jones later dived at the feet of Kieron Dyer preventing a third goal but the damage was done.

Newcastle and Middlesbrough's loss meant Richard Garcia's Hull managed to stay in the top division despite losing 1-0 to Manchester United. Garcia played 82 minutes against Manchester United's reserve team.

Vinnie Grella played 70 minutes of Blackburn's 0-0 draw with bottom side West Brom. Blackburn finished 13th on the table after surviving a relegation scare when new coach Sam Allardyce came to the club part way through the season.

Celtic lost out in the race for the Scottish Premier League title after a scoreless draw with Heart of Midlothian in the final round.

Scott McDonald shot wide from close range in the first half and then over the bar in the second half.
He was substituted in the 69th minute as the Hoops pressed desperately for a goal that never came.

Danny Invincibile scored the opening goal in the closing match of the season for Kilmarnock against Motherwell. An unmarked Invincibile scored from 12 yards out on the counter attack. Killie won the match 2-1.

Harry Kewell scored the only goal for Galatasaray but it was not enough to stop Turkish Super Lig leaders Besiktas. Kewell scored on the counter attack in the 49th minute to tie the game at 1-1 but Besiktas sealed the game in the 59th minute winning 2-1.

Michael Petkovic's Sivasspor remain hot on the tail of Besiktas after a 3-2 win over Genclerbirligi. Aussie James Troisi fired past Petkovic to take the lead in the 22nd minute for Gencer but three second half goals from Sivasspor ensured the win. Mile Jedinak also featured for Genclerbirligi.

In the Italian Serie A Mark Bresciano had a shot on goal but was denied by a good save as Palermo drew 2-2 with Atlanta. The result means Palermo will miss out on a spot in the Europa League.

Carl Valeri came off the bench for Italian Serie B club Grosseto as they secured a 1-1 draw against Ancona. Grosseto are in 6th spot on the table and if they can hold that spot in the last round next weekend they will enter the promotion play-offs.

Josh Kennedy's Karlsruhe played Hertha Berlin in the German Bundesliga on Saturday with Kennedy scoring a double.

Josh scored on the volley just after the hour and scored another from a header to make the final score a 4-0 win to Karlsruhe. It was the first time Kennedy scored for his club this season but it wasn't enough to keep Karlsruhe in the top division with other results ensuring they are relegated.

In the Bundesliga 2 Dario Vidosic came off the bench in the 76th minute for FC Nurnberg in their 2-1 defeat of 1860 Munich earning Nurnberg a place in the promotion playoff.

In the Swiss Super League Scott Chipperfield came off the bench for FC Basel in the 59th minute but he couldn't help Basel who lost 4-1 to the Grasshoppers and are now four points behind leaders FC Zurich with one round to go.

Mark Rudan played the full shift for relegated club FC Vaduz in their 5-1 loss to FC Sion Sitten.

Uruguayan Australian Richard Porta made a rare appearance for his Portugese club Belenenses. Porta came off the bench in the 75th minute of Belenenses 3-1 loss to Benfica. The loss results in Belenenses being relegated from the top flight.

In Romania, Joshua Rose and Spase Dilevski both featured for Universitatea Craiova in their 3-0 defeat of Rapid Bucuresti.

Perth Glory signing Jacob Burns' Unirea Urziceni went to the top of the Romanian Liga with a 1-0 win over rivals Dinamo Bucharest.

Luke Wilkshire played the full shift of Dinamo Moscow's 1-0 win over Zenit St Petersburg in the Russian Premier League.

In Norway, Shane Stefanutto played the full shift of Lyn Oslo's 1-0 loss to Tromso while Kasey Wehrman came off the bench in the 75th minute for Fredrickstad in their 2-0 loss to Odd Grenland.
