Barcelona striker David Villa has criticised the condition of the Nou Camp pitch following the Catalan giants' uncertain start to the Primera Division campaign, saying: "The style of Barcelona needs the best pitch."
Barca were held 1-1 by Real Mallorca at home on Sunday and are yet to really hit their stride, especially at home where they lost to newly-promoted Hercules in their first home Primera Division match of the season.
Villa directed his criticism at the Nou Camp surface, and told Diario AS: "Looking at it from the outside the pitch looked good, but it cut up a lot and it was becoming heavy. The style of Barca needs the best pitch.
"The danger was that it was cutting up a lot, not only because of (the potential for) injury but because it became heavy. And then things like (the injury to) Pedro happen."
Pedro was replaced late on in the match against Mallorca after damaging a muscle in his left leg and he will now be sidelined for three weeks.
Barca have scored 10 goals in their six games so far, a low mark by their lofty standards, and Villa is adamant it is something the team are working hard to address.
"The problem that we have is the lack of goals, and that is what is weighing heavy on us. No one creates more chances than Barcelona."
