David Villa was delighted to re-live old memories as Spain enjoyed a successful return to the scene of their Euro 2008 triumph tonight with a 5-1 mauling of Austria in Vienna.
Spain ended a 44-year wait for a major trophy when they beat Germany 1-0 in the final of the European Championships 18 months ago at the Ernst-Happel Stadion, and it was to prove to be another happy night for 'La Furia Roja' at the same venue this evening.
Although they fell behind after just eight minutes of the friendly, Spain bounced back in style to record their 41st victory - including two after extra-time - in their last 44 fixtures.
Two of Spain's goals in the triumph came from Villa, who is now just nine behind the national record of 44 held by the out-of-favour Real Madrid veteran Raul.
Villa was forced to miss Spain'sEuro 2008 final win over Germany because of injury, but he played a key part in his country's success with a tournament-high four goals, and the Valencia hitman was pleased to be back in the Austrian capital.
"I'm very happy to have come back here again and be able to remember the really nice situation that we experienced last summer," said Villa on Spanish television.
"We are also happy with the win and how we played, it was a comprehensive victory."
