PARIS St Germain president Charles Villeneuve has slammed reports that former France captain Didier Deschamps is set to replace Paul Le Guen as the club's coach.
PSG issued an official statement on Thursday denying the story published in French sports daily L'Equipe claiming Deschamps is being lined up to take over from Le Guen after a disappointing start to the season.
And Villeneuve has underlined the club's stance.
"Since I have been at PSG, I have realised that many people look to destabilise us, notably by way of my relationship with Paul Le Guen," he told Le Parisien.
"Behind the title 'Deschamps very close to PSG' there is not a single truth, it is only a hypothesis.
"I refute something that is purely speculative. It's incredible! As soon as there are defeats, Villeneuve is going to change everything!
"I'm not like that, I'm not a destroyer. I don't hesitate to make decisions, but before, I reflect, I listen and I do not need a circle of advisors."
Le Guen's players are not as confident as their president that their poor run of form will not spell the end of the road for their coach, with youngster Gregory Bourillon saying: "There is no smoke without fire."
However, Villeneuve is adamant he has nobody lined up to replace Le Guen.
"In this affair, there is neither smoke nor fire," he continued. "They always put me in the middle of so many stories, what can I do about that?
"Two weeks ago, I was in contact with David Dein to sort out the arrival of Arsene Wenger, at the same time I was in Abu Dhabi to find some investment.
"Today it's Deschamps, and tomorrow who will it be? Fabio Capello? Marcello Lippi?"
Le Guen spent heavily in the summer after a disappointing season which saw them finish 16th and fans were hoping that they would be fighting at the right end of the table this time around.
However, PSG currently lie 11th in Ligue 1 and their last UEFA Cup match was a disappointing draw against Kayserispor, but Villeneuve has given a vote of confidence to his under-fire coach.
"Is he under threat? By what? By what? On the road yes, he could have a car accident," said the PSG president. "Look, we have just started the season.
"Of course I can't be happy with a goaless draw against Kayserispor. I'm also talking about the manner of it because our fans want a good game.
"We are an entertainment company, we must see that those who come to the stadium like PSG's style of play. Paris won't be happy just with results.
"But before climbing from 16th place to the top you need some steps in between.
"I think he is a good coach. Today, we have confidence in Paul Le Guen."
