South Melbourne 2 (Kyle Joryeff, Rhodri Payne)
Victorian Training Centre 3
(Damir Lokvancic (2), David Stirton)
@ SS Anderson Reserve

VICTORIAN Training Centre recorded a surprise come from behind 3-2 win over South Melbourne in Port Melbourne.

South went into the break a goal up but a second half double from VTC striker Damir Lokvancic gave the visitors the points.

David Stirton gave VTC an early lead with his second goal of the season before Kyle Joryeff equalized and Rhodri Payne gave South the advantage.

But the undermanned South conceded twice in the second period with exciting youngster Lokvancic finishing with a brace and giving VTC a surprise win.

South’s defence has conceded seven goals in the last two weeks.

They were also missing the services of Fernando De Moraes and Daniel Vasilevski, who could be in line for a return from injury against Bentleigh.

Oakleigh Cannons 2 (Frankie Lagana (2))
Springvale White Eagles 2
(Milos Lujic, Zoran Vukas)
@ Jack Edwards Reserve

SPRINGVALE White Eagles pinched their first point of the season with a late goal, securing a 2-2 draw at the highly fancied Oakleigh.

Cannons midfielder Frankie Lagana scored a brace to twice put the Cannons ahead, but the White Eagles came from behind to claim a surprise point.

Milos Lujic was the first to peg one back for the visitors and Zoran Vukas scored his second goal of the season with less than 10 minutes to play.

Oakleigh will play their fourth consecutive home game on Monday night against VTC before travelling to Bentleigh in their second game of round four.

Other than this slight hiccup, the Cannons have made a good start while the White Eagles have begun their attempt to avoid relegation with a first point.

Melbourne Knights 2 (Jean-Charles Dubois, Daniel Dragicevic)
Green Gully Cavaliers 1
(Mile Medjedovic)
@ Knights Stadium

MELBOURNE Knights have won their first game of the season, keeping last year’s champions Green Gully winless in the process after an entertaining 2-1 derby win.

The Knights produced their best performance of the season to claim a first home win over the Cavaliers since August 19, 2007.

Striker Jean-Charles Dubois opened the scoring inside two minutes after burying a low cross from Daniel Dragicevic into the bottom corner.

The home side made a blistering start and Dragicevic twice had chances to score in the opening quarter of an hour.

First, he poked a shot wide of goal after a lovely through ball from Shaun Romein and he scuffed a shot wide moments later.

The visitors equalized brilliantly in the 36th minute after a passage of one-touch passes freed Graham Hockless on the right and Mile Medjedovic was first to his cross.

But the home crowd didn’t have to wait long to regain the lead after the break as Dragicevic was given too much space and time just outside the area, making no mistake with a neat finish into the bottom corner.

It was an important win for the Knights heading into a derby clash with Springvale, while the Cavaliers need to win in another local derby against St Albans.

Richmond 0
Dandenong Thunder 3
(Veton Korcari, Mathew Theodore, Luke Sherbon)
@ Kevin Bartlett Reserve

DANDENONG Thunder maintained their unbeaten start to the season with a comprehensive 3-0 win over the struggling Richmond.

Thunder went ahead in the first half courtesy of a header from captain Veton Korcari before sealing the win in the second period.

Mathew Theodore struck first before Luke Sherbon converted from the penalty spot to give Dandenong three wins from as many games.

While they moved to the top of the table, the Eagles slumped into the relegation zone early in the season.

Hume City 2 (Steven Weir (2))
Heidelberg United 1
(Saso Alexovski)
@ Broadmeadows Valley Park

HUME City scored their first win of the season with a come from behind 2-1 win over Heidelberg United.

The visitors opened the scoring early on as Saso Alexovski tapped in for United to hold a half time lead.

But in the space of five minutes in the second half, City were up thanks to some brilliance from half time substitute Zoran Petrevski.

He assisted Steven Weir for the equalizer before the same man scored the second to give City their first win of the season.

It moved them into fifth spot while Heidelberg would be rueing a missed opportunity after taking an early lead.

South Melbourne 2 (Sebastian Petrovic, Kyle Joryeff)
Bentleigh Greens 1
(Sean McIlroy)
@ John Cain Memorial Park

A 10-man South Melbourne bounced back from their mid-week defeat with a 2-1 win over Bentleigh Greens, despite the dismissal of on-loan Melbourne Heart youngster Kliment Taseski early in the second half.

Sebastian Petrovic opened the scoring after he rose unmarked to head home a corner from Taseski in the fourth minute.

But the Greens equalized through the league’s equal top scorer Sean McIlroy, although parity didn’t last long.

Kyle Joryeff scored for the second time in as many games before Taseski saw straight red for a rash challenge just before the hour mark.

It moved South into third spot, behind Bentleigh on goal difference after another action-packed encounter.

St Albans Saints 0
Northcote City 1
(Trent Rixon)
@ Churchill Reserve

ST Albans had their long-lasting home unbeaten run broken as a Trent Rixon penalty gave Northcote City a 1-0 win.

The Saints, unbeaten at Churchill Reserve since May 3 2009, fell to Rixon’s twice taken 76th minute penalty.

Last year’s golden boot winner had his initial penalty saved by Ante Loncaric, but he was given a retake with which he made no mistake after the keeper was adjudged to have come off his line.

It was Rixon’s first goal of the season as St Albans remain winless, making for a huge local derby clash with Green Gully in round four.
