After Christian Panucci's opener, Vucinic struck twice in the second half and the Romans prevailed 3-1 to move into second place in Group A.

Roma went into the game desperate for a victory to spark their season into life following five successive defeats.

"Seeing the way we went into the pitch, we would have won this game regardless of which line-up we played with," said Vucinic.

"We had an incredible energy going into this game."

The outcome eased the pressure on under-fire coach Luciano Spalletti, whose team are hovering above the relegation zone in Italy's Serie A.

Above all, Vucinic was happy that his team finally showed the form that saw them finish runners-up in the domestic competition last season and reach the quarter-final stages of Europe's elite competition.

"We have responded in the best possible way," said the Montenegrin international.

"We played a great game against a very good side.

"Before the game we looked at each other in the face and said to ourselves that we have to be quiet and work."

The victory leaves Roma level on six points with Bordeaux, and just one behind leaders Chelsea with two group games remaining.

Vucinic and his team-mates will be hoping Tuesday's win will be a big morale boost in view of their upcoming games against Bologna and city rivals Lazio.

Roma have won just two games and lost six in nine Serie A encounters this term.

"We need to continue to work hard," he said."We must give continuity to this result."
