Brisbane Roar 1 Melbourne Victory 4
Melbourne Victory have claimed their first win of the season after demolishing Brisbane Roar 4-1 at AJ Kelly Field.
Jeff Hopkins’ first win as Victory coach came against his former club where he had vast success in the W-League’s early days.
A Tash Dowie (45’, 71’, 93’) hat-trick helped Victory down the Roar to remove themselves from the bottom of the table.

Laura Spiranovic opened the scoring (18’) before Amy Chapman equalised (42’) with the score remaining level for only three minutes as Tash Dowie placed the visitors back in front at half-time.
The story of Victory’s season so far was a poor second-half performance but it was anything but as Dowie scored two more goals after the break to seal the win.
Christine Nairn’s corner helped Spiranovic grab the first goal as her cross managed to find the tall striker after 18 minutes.
But it looked as if history would repeat itself as Emily Gielnik’s ball to Chapman managed to beat Bianca Henninger in the 42nd minute.
On the brink of half-time a hopeful Kariah White long ball paid dividends as Mackenzie Arnold failed to deal with it properly with Dowie capitalising to place Victory back in front.
Both teams went at it and before the Roar could steal the show Lia Privitelli’s long ball was not dealt with by Clare Polkinghorne and found Dowie in the box who made it 3-1 with 20 minutes remaining.
Privitelli had an impact again in the final minute when she played her way into the box evading the defenders which ended in a cross to Dowie who had little to do but to ice the game and collect her third of the day.
Victory travel to Dorrien Gardens next week to face the hungry Glory while the Roar look to dismantle Western Sydney Wanderers who had a BYE.

Melbourne City have failed to win in its fourth consecutive game after being held 1-1 at CB Smith Reserve on Monday night.
Jess Fishlock’s free kick gave City a 1-0 lead (25’) which was cancelled out by Rachael Quigley (70’) in the final 20 minutes of the game.

It was Jacynta Galabadaarachchi who won the free kick which was subsequently converted by Fishlock after 25 minutes.
Minutes later Chicago Red Stars teammates Katie Naughton and Sofia Huerta had golden opportunities to equalise for the Reds but both chances were denied by Lydia Williams.
Youngster Galabadaarachchi continued to impress after she found the post with minutes to go before half-time.
City looked destined to take the three points before Huerta’s cross found Quigley’s head which evaded Williams to level the score.
With five minutes remaining Erika Tymrak struck the post, but the scores finished level.

Perth Glory 1 Newcastle Jets 1
Perth Glory have escaped losing at home to Newcastle Jets thanks to star captain Sam Kerr once again at Dorrien Gardens and now finds itself second on the table.
The Matildas striker equalised (69’) after the Glory found themselves trailing when Jenna Kingsley found herself one-on-one with Gab Dal Busco to make it 1-0 (46’).
In the half hour mark Nikki Stanton almost changed the game when her sizzling strike just crept over the crossbar.
Minutes later a penalty was awarded after Kerr was fouled by Grace Macintyre, but Vanessa Di Bernardo failed to convert with Katelyn Rowland palming the ball away.

Five minutes remaining in the first half and Rosie Dee Sutton continued her impressive form when her shot from distance made Rowland working again, but did enough to deny her.
But the Glory’s good work would be undone a minute into the second half when Kingsley was through to go around Dal Busco to open the scoring.
Minutes later the Jets were unlucky not to double their lead when Jen Hoy’s header was only just denied on the line by Dal Busco.
A vital equaliser came when Kerr turned the Jets defenders inside-out to chip Rowland from an acute angle.
At full-time the Glory now find themselves second while the Jets sit seventh on the table.
