Newcastle Jets v Perth Glory
Perth Glory got their campaign off to a flying start with a big 5-2 win away to Newcastle Jets on Saturday. Katie Gill opened the scoring inside the opening 60 seconds with a volley from a Marianna Tabian cross. The lead did not last long with Hannah Beard leveling just four minutes later, before Collette McCallum put Glory back in the lead on 10 minutes. Newcastle found another equaliser, this time from the penalty spot, with Tara Andrews sending her spot-kick in to the top corner of the net to ensure it would be 2-2 going in to the break. But it was all Glory in the second half with Christina Julien making it 3-2 on 66 minutes, before goals in the last 10 minutes to Rosie Sutton and Tabian ensured a big win to kick off the season.

Brisbane Roar v Canberra United
Canberra United pulled off a massive win in round one of the competition with a 3-0 win away from home against the always strong Brisbane Roar. Lori Lindsey silenced the home crowd with a goal after just seven minutes when she scored the rebound off Michelle Heyman’s shot, which had come back off the post. Heyman got on the score sheet just before half-time with a neat finish from a tight angle, before adding a second goal shortly after the half-time break to seal a big win for United.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Adelaide United
Adelaide United were denied a dream start to their 2013-14 season by an injury-time equaliser from Western Sydney Wanderers forward Catherine Cannuli.  Alexandra Gummer gave United a shock lead just after the half-hour mark when she poked home from a corner. Adelaide managed to hold their lead for the rest of the game until Cannuli stepped up in the 92nd minute to blast a shot past United goalkeeper Melissa Barbieri.

Melbourne Victory v Sydney FC
Last season’s W-League Champions Sydney FC started their title defence in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 win over Melbourne Victory on Sunday afternoon. Despite Victory taking the lead in the third minute through Emma Checker, Sydney found themselves level after just 18 minutes when Leena Khamis converted following a scramble in the box. Just three minutes later and Sydney took the lead through Nicola Bolger who volleyed home from a cross to the far post. Sydney kept their advantage going into the break and then extended it just before the hour mark with a delightful chip from Jodie Taylor. Bolger got a second on 73 minutes before Kete scored the goal of the round with a spectacular volley from the corner of the 18-yard box.
